Can you motherboard swap a mid 2014 and mid 2015 iMac motherboard?

My dad owns a mid 2015 27" 5k iMac and it is starting to show its age. I suggested he upgrade to a new M1 or M2 iMac mini. But he loves the 27" display of his current computer and since the 2015 iMac models don't support targeted display mode, I was wondering if it is possible to buy a cheap mid 2014 iMac that supports targeted display mode, swap the mother boards and save some computer from becoming e waste. Any help/ideas on where to look for info is greatly appreciated.

Sorry it’s not that simple! The video interface internally is different so that won’t work.

How about adding more RAM if he is still at 8GB boost it to 16GB. If it’s a HDD system how about upgrading or adding a second SSD drive.

I've upgraded the ram and the storage to an ssd in the past but he is still complaining about it being too slow in some cases. Thanks for the answer though.

@reagan1410 - Was this a Fusion Drive model? If it was you have a hidden cache SSD on the back side of the logic board which can cause the system to drag! Reemplazo del circuito SSD del iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display
