I had the wii for a long time and I tried to play games with the nunchuk but for some reason it keeps disconnecting. I was wiggling the cord around a bit and it was connecting and disconnecting, why does it do that?

The inside of the port might be dirty, try cleaning it out

The problem could certainly be something that makes contact between the input of the wii motion controller and the nunchuk, such as a little bit corrosion that has arisen over time, or simply a few crumbs that have slipped inside, in conclusion you could try to clean all 2 parts with isopropyl alcohol and a small brush.
