What do they look like, Ben? Can you add a picture to your question?

@oldturkey03 - :-[…

Hey @hellomacos how’d you like to fix a GPU fault? Well today’s your lucky day!

@beanman56

Have you tried cleaning the ram slots?

My Mac Pro did something similar to that when some dust got into one of the slots

- de

@hellomacos - I’ll try it, when I opened it I was greeted by someone’s pet dust bunny.

- de

Well it’s better(sort of ) but then it went back, I think it’s a ram problem. Thanks @hellomacos

Hello Ben,

This's cpu overheating problem (GPU sector) and just of beginning of the problem. On this moment cpu reballing will enough.

@tojaert - I'll try your fix after my heat gun gets here.

:-) heat gun is nor enough. Just will destroy a working computer. Don't do that way. Find proper repair shop.

- de

@tojaert - well it doesn’t work anyways so…

- de

this is a basic mistake among amateurs... "it doesn't work anyway, so...". You're going to kill this motherboard with that way.

- de

@tojaert - Reballing a chip is not that trivial! The chance for it to work with just a heat gun is less than 25% !!

To do it correctly requires a rework station so the logic board is at the correct temp and the rework stations chip heater is set at the correct temp and after the chip is mounted the board and the chip,are,properly cooled down so you don’t create solder fractures or cold solder joints.

Even I don’t tempt doing it any more as it’s not easy to do and unless you do it often you often mess up!

Keep in mind this series uses a dedicated Radeon 9200 GPU chip so messing with the PowerPC chip won’t fix the graphics issues.
