My Ps2 periodically wont boot

Hi guys,

My launch-day ps2 is having an issue where it won't power on far enough to display picture. The green power light will come on as will the fan but 9 out of every 10 starts will just have the console not display anything. A telltale way to know if picture will be displayed on that boot is if I hear the hard drive spin up, but most of the time that doesn't happen and I'll have try rebooting it again.

If lucky, once it get's to the main browser screen it will be able to sit there for a few minutes before colored boxes and lines start to pop up on the screen and the console freezes.

Any ideas?
