Hi

@justfixit1

Just as we discussed before,it’s not something to worry about now as the display you were plugging in was already damaged :-)

When you saw the display bleeding ,that was the start of the end of that display and it was also smashed(bleeding can cause the display not to turn on)

So would worry about it right now as we are yet to replace your display and that will give us a better indication of if there’s a problem

People make this mistake all the time (some device like the iPod touch have soldered on battery’s so you can remove them)

And as @imicrosoldering said the iPhone 8 is quite forgiving when it comes to things like this

So I wouldn’t worry about it :-)

If you need any more help just ask

Thanks:-)

I am not sure if you are facing a problem here or not but the iPhone 8 is pretty forgiving when it comes to connecting the screen while the battery is connected. If the screen is working the phone will be fine.

If the display was working (even if not properly) before hand, my inking is it's likely a board level issue.

First thing I would check is if the backlight is just out. It's not an uncommon issue in this sort of situation, where backlight components blow when the screen is connected while the battery is still plugged in. Try shining a flashlight at the screen and see if you can get any sort of image. The backlight circuit is on the back side of the board, near the display connectors. You would have to peel up a sticker to get a look. And it may be difficult to see any damage without some kind of microscope. But blown components can be fairly obvious.

It could also have been related to any other sort of accidental bridging of lines.

Realistically, the easiest way, aside from visual inspect to tell, would be to use a multimeter to get some diode mode readings on the display connector.

@justfixit1 Yep, I find it's easiest to tell right at boot up, when the Apple logo would appear since the contrast is high and it's a simply image. But, if the backlight is out it just means the phone is still producing an image. It just can't illuminate the screen so it's easy to see it.
