Can't move my pick past a crack.

Block Image

Started on the right speaker, which then cracked. So I moved to the left speaker and went down, and came across an existing crack which bent up, preventing my pick from moving the rest of the way. The same thing happened when I tried going up. So i'm pretty much stuck at this point. Any tips on continuing past where i'm at right now?

My guess is that the adhesive hasn't been heated enough. Backoff from the crack a bit and reheat the area with the heated opening pad. Also Make sure that you are not cutting through the antenna cables, or the display cable. There is a guide here that shows the layout of the cables and where it is safe to cut through. I'll link it here for your viewing.

I'm currently using a 3d printer bed heated to 85c to soften the adhesive. Should I just leave it on the bed for longer or crank the temperature?

Typically the rule of thumb for temp is 80 to 100 Celsius, but you'll need consistent heat across the whole area of the screen.

I've heard of people using hot plates for this kind of stuff, but I've never heard of anyone using the bed from their 3d printer. Which is why I'm wondering if that would even get you the consistent temp that a hot plate would.

3d printers are designed to stay hot at a very exact temperature through PID for hours or days at a time. I've heard people from the 3d printing community try this with success, so I thought i might give it a shot. I do have a heat gun as a backup plan however.

I just personally never heard of someone doing that. If it works, then it works. The adhesive is also the thickest at the side where the antenna cables lie. So keep heating it, and the glue should become easier to release. You're also going to reheat it from time to time.

It’s already cracked, just power through.

can you clarify on power through? I realized that the top of the device was plastic, so I was able to cut the adhesive there, but there is still the bottom and right side that I can't get to.

@MoltenHydrogen Rip the whole thing out, you’re going to get a new screen anyway.

Be careful in the top though, if you break the WiFi antennas in the top, you’ll have to get those as well.
