iMac 27 late 2009: Blank screen after 5 minutes

I have replaced the logic board on my imac (previous question), it seems to work but after ca 5 minutes the screen goes black. When I restart, the same problem after 2-3 minutes. What could be the reason?

Hi Tony,

Seems like there’s some sort of incompatibility or fault.

Judging by the fact you did a logic board swap it seems you have the tools for these imac repairs.

When this issue occurs, can you shine a flashlight on it to see if theres any image. If so then the backlight connector is not seated properly

If not, try a power cycle (If u don’t know how to do that either i or someone else can explain)

As a last resort try and swap the boards out again and see if the issue continues.

If so then something is clearly damaged hardware-wise and needs replacement. My guess is the display cable is somehow being interfered with.

thanks for the hints; I will try them out.

I also wonder if the problem can be caused by the graphic card?

I agree with @np_f1_2021 direction you likely have a backlight issue, press the flashlight against the display at a sharp angle if you see the faint image of your desktop and its icons you've isolated this issue to the backlight logic. You could have a bad cap on the LED driver board which I've seen a few times.
