Trackpad and mouse click don't work.

Hi, my mid 2014 Pro stopped registering mouse clicks on the trackpad. I then tried a USB mouse but the same happened there. Both trackpad and mouse can move the mouse and I can use mouse keys “I” to navigate the mac.

I have checked the trackpad connector on the inside and it was a bit loose but after properly seating it there were no change in performance. I’ve also checked the batteries but they don’t seem swollen.

Is there anyone who have a clue what could have caused it? I have tried updating to the latest macOS and tried clearing SMC, PRAM and a fresh install.

The trackpad doesn't seem to click in itself either. Can the trackpad block a external mouse from clicking?

It seems to work both with the trackpad and mouse if I gently lift the trackpad with a razor blade. So a broken trackpad may block a external usb mouse from properly working. Hope this helps anyone else.

Take a cotton swab (Q-Tip) slightly dampen it with 95% or better isopropyl alcohol. carefully wipe the edge to clean the build up of junk which is jamming your trackpad from working.
