Electric Keyboard making crackling sounds when on

I’m not sure how to really explain it.. when I turn on my keyboard it makes these weird crackling sounds. After maybe 30 seconds of turning it on (the crackling getting louder as well), the keyboard suddenly turns off by itself. It’s happened multiple times and I’ve already tried fixing it before. I found out the crackling noises were from the speakers and I’m not really sure what to do about it.

Hi @thehelpfulfrog

What is the make and model number of the keyboard?

Are you sure that the noise was from the speakers themselves or maybe it was the audio amp creating the noise that can be heard in the speakers.

What did you do before that temporarily resolved it?

Do you hear it when using headphones connected to the keyboard (if that option is available)?

Thank you @jayeff!

After asking the question I did test it with headphones, and it does go through to the headphones. I'm not really that sure if the noise was coming from the speakers themselves since I'm very new with owning a keyboard. As for the make and model number for the keyboard, I'm not really that sure. It was originally my mother's, but she gave it to me.

@thehelpfulfrog

The make and model number should be printed on an information label on the underside of the keyboard.

Knowing that will hopefully allow the service manual to be found so that the schematics can be used to find out where the problem is.

A lot of times with noise it may be a loose or dirty connection but then again it may be something else.

if there is also noise heard when using headphones then its looking like a problem in the audio amplifier section or possibly the power supply feeding the amp. in the keyboard

This sounds like a problem in the power supply section. If this keyboard has an external power supply that plugs into a wall socket try to borrow one just like it from a store or a friend. See if that fixes the crackling. If it does just purchase a replacement power supply. If the power supply is internal to the keyboard (you can tell by a wall plug cable goes directly into the keyboard), have someone who knows electronics disassemble the unit and replace all the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply section. These capacitors sometimes breakdown and allow internal shorting which could cause the crackling and also could cause the unit to shut down temporarily.
