Indicator light doesn't turn on, pc doesn't recognise it, hear it spin

So I have a 2TB Seagate Slim Backup Plus Portable Drive.

I’ve had it for a couple of years now and today for some reason it seems to have randomly stopped working I guess. I say this because when I plug it into my pc, laptop, or even tv, it doesn’t read the device - I can’t see the drive on any of my devices, even checked disk management and it didn’t show. Strange thing is, I can hear it spinning, it sounds fairly quiet but I can definitely hear it however my pc doesn’t seem to see it and the indicator light doesn’t turn on either.

Can’t seem to find a similar issue anywhere online so any help here would be appreciated, would be happy to answer any of your questions as this just seems to have happened randomly tbh.

You are in luck as the drive it just a standard, off the shelf SATA drive - unlike the unfortunately proprietary drives often used now by the major manufacturers of these external drives.

So take the drive out, as instructed below, and connect it to either an external USB to SATA cable, put it in generic external SATA drive case or connect inside a PC and test if it can be read.

So if the drive tests out good then the Seagate case is defective.

Just purchase an external USB 3.1 SATA drive case - making sure it supports SATA I, II and III - and install your drive in it. You are done.

To take it apart you either use the IFIXIT teardown guide:
