iPhone 11 wont turn on BATT_VCC short

Hello,

Got an iPhone 11 was not turning on when the customer brought it to me. Opened to phone and found a short on PP_BATT_VCC on the battery connector. Tried using rosin smoke method to find a short but i am unable to. I suspect it is the Tigris chip (u3300).

Any help would be appreciated! :D

The charging circuit is different on the 11 series. I think you will find you have a PP_VDD_MAIN short. Time to split the board and find what layer it is on. Than you can inject voltage and find out what is getting hot.

Hey man, thanks for that. I fixed the phone and then saw your comment. Turns out I had a short on VDD_MAIN and i just knocked the cap off and it turned on. Thanks for your help tho. Appreciate it!

@iammyron07 That's great. I love those easy shorts.

Hey, Ive ran into an issue after resolving the short. The phone wouldn't charge, I changed the Hydra IC and still it wouldn't then I went ahead and replaced Tigris with a new one and now the phone wont turn on. Checked the main power rails too, seems like theres no short on the board. Any idea what would have happened? ?

@iammyron07 I haven’t seen a lot of the 11 series on my bench but for the charging issue since there was a short on the main power rail I would have replaced L3301 and 2. As for it not powering on anymore I would be looking at the IC’s you replaced. You may have flowed or nudged other components around them. Replacing chips that you are not sure if they need replacing brings variables into the repair like you are facing now.

Yeah, totally agree as there was a misdiagnosis by me at first thinking there was a short on the Battery line, but i'm confused now as i dont think i have disturbed any other component while replacing the ic's. It's just dead out of no where, no shorts on the board nothing?
