Purple flickering lines on screen

Hello

I have the following MacBook Pro model (MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)// 2,3 GHz Intel Core i5// 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3// Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 1536 MB) and suddenly the screen started flickering with purple horizontal lines. The lines do not appear on an external monitor that is connected to the computer, they only appear on the Mac screen.

I have tried rebooting with the following options and it doesn’t work. Any ideas?

1) Option, Command, P, and R

2) Control, left Option (Alt), right Shift

3) Shift, left Control, left Option (Alt)

Due to the fact your only facing the issue on the MacBook screen itself, it would seem you have physical damage. It’s either gonna be the LCD cable, a board Issue or god forbid a damaged screen :(

Thank you for your prompt reply. I was wondering whether it is a known defect for this model, given some issues such as this one: https://support.apple.com/13-inch-macboo...

The LCD cables are common to deteriorate over time that's why I mentioned this first :)

There certainly is a know backlight driver issue with most MacBooks, but as you see an image it would mean the backlight is fine.

I just hope for your bank's sake it's not the screen itself :(

@eazy_pc_repairs - Older Unibody the cable was often the issue! The newer Retina systems its a bit different! Think how Analog TV worked with the rabbit ear antenna you had to move them about to get rid of the ghosting. Now with Digital you don't get ghosting at all! The signal works or it doesn't!

Same thing here! Between the older LVDS signaling and the newer iDP/eDP signaling the retina systems use.

Sadly, your internal display assembly will likely need to be replaced. These newer Mac’s tend to run hot and as Apple moved the T-CON board to be within the uppercase it tend to cook (pass me the BBQ sauce!)

Dust buildup in the fan blades and heatsink fins tend to be the largest issue. Using the system on ones bed or other cloth surface which blocked the air flow is another. Lastly, running the system hard without pushing the fans to the max using a good thermal monitoring app like TG Pro.

See if cleaning the dust out and pushing the fan helps. At least it can buy you some time. Here’s the needed part MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2016-2017) Display Assembly and the guide to put it in Reemplazo del ensamblaje de pantalla MacBook 13" con Barra Táctil de finales 2016
