forgot to unplug battery while disassembling phone - is it damaged?

Right–here’s the problem. I’m an idiot, first of all, and I suffer for my stupidity. Secondly, I mistook one of the prying bits as the battery part and pried that off instead of the battery. I figured out my huge mistake after I disassembled the screen and all that junk.

The problem here is this: is this phone dead? I’m arguably sure that this battery hasn’t seen a jolt of charge after it’s been water damaged (as it was when I bought it), and it hasn’t been recognized by my mac before. No battery indicator, nothing. I also haven’t got the smoke that everyone talks about (or a burning smell, anything) while disassembling it. Is it cooked? Is it alright? Am I a failure in life with forty bucks down the drain because I have two left eyes?

These are very important life questions. I’ll owe you a huge one if you can help me out of my predicament.

Its been done before, taking apart the display without unplugging the battery. I've done it a few times on accident when I was just learning but all my repairs were still successful, so I doubt that's why its not working.

You mentioned that the phone was water damaged. Did the phone show any signs of life before you took it apart? Usually water damage isn't the display or battery problem, but an issue with the board.

@takumaa99 It actually didn't at all! I took it to the repairs today and he said the water damage was extensive. I disagree with his assessment but I def agree that water damage is playing a major part.

Did those experiences include taking apart an iphone X and above? I remember hearing stuff like that for the 6.

Real $@$* tho, I'd do a lot to get this phone in working condition. Thanks for replying!

I have given this answer already to someone, you can try this also and maybe this will help you to solve your problem. Because of it has been in contact with water you must clean the connectors with alcohol.

Put a new good battery in it, that would be my first thing to do if it was mine. A few days ago I had a iPhone X what wasn’t recognise by iTunes and could not put it in DFU mode and the screen was black, no live at all. The iPhone was not recognise by iTunes because in settings the phone was disabled to use usb if it wasn’t used longer than 1 hour. Afther I put in a new battery the phone show a sign of live, then I put a new screen on the phone a now it works.

Definitely planning to do that. I've bought a liter of isopropyl 99% exactly for this situation. I hope it isn't fried though haha.

Thanks for answering! I'll pool for a few more answers, really appreciate you taking the time to help.
