2009 model won't let me use Express card eSATA in Windows

Hey,

I have a Silicon Image SIL 3531 SATA controller, it is a Express card from Kanguru solutions and I used it in my 15" MacBook Pro from 2006 all the time with my 32 GB eSATA flash drive. I upgraded to a 17" MacBook Pro in 2009 and I can ot get this Windows only card to work. It is seen by the system but gives me this error.

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

I have disabled the Firewire (IEEE1394), bluetooth radio, isight camera and still I am unable to get this to work. Any suggestions would be greatly appricated.

I agree that there is no way to make your card work. I'm not sure what you're using it for, but perhaps purchasing a new SD card to go with your new MBPs built-in SD card slot would provide a good enough solution?

OK everyone thanks for the help. There is no SD on the early 2009 17" MacBook Pro. It is an ExpressCard (sorry called it PCIe which is what ExpressCard is) and I now believe that the EFI firmware is not assigning resources to this card. Shame, I used it to power this http://shop.kanguru.com/index.php/flash-... and without the powered eSATA card they are only good as USB for this system.

Does the card go in the computer's expansion slot?

if so, check the driver for the controller and make sure you have the current version, does it work in mac os x, what version of windows are you using? try checking the driver and checking the connection on the card.

The MacBook 2009 was redesigned and the Express Card will no longer work.

The MacBook 2006 has a PCIe slot 34 which was a 32 bit card. The slot was equilivent to a PCMCIA slot used in older model G3 laptops. The short answer it will not work. The newer processors are 64 bit and older cards will not be supported.

Hi, both PC have a PCIe slot so I do not think the PCIe slot is the issue, but you might be right about the 64 bit, however kanguru systems says the controller on the card and driver support 64 bit. I will check with Kanguru about this.
