Hotpoint rf187m - Freezer OK - Fridge not working

Hi,

The model from what I can see has no fans. The freezer section is working fine but the fridge is not cool enough around 10 degrees. The freezer was full of ICE which I have got rid off. But the fridge is still no getting cool. With no fan I’m unsure of what could be at fault.

Regards

Hi,

According to this link the freezer section in the refrigerator uses a static defrost method. This means that it has to be manually defrosted by the user when necessary, to keep the ice levels down. (model is in 2nd column from the right). This may be the reason that the freezer was full of ice as it is not an auto defrost refrigerator

The condenser unit appears to be mounted externally on the rear of the cabinet. Check that the condenser unit is free from dust etc. Dust build up on the condenser unit inhibits the release of the heat absorbed by the refrigerant and affects the cooling efficiency of the system.

Also check if the refrigerator door seals (aka gasket) are still OK and are providing a good seal on the refrigerator compartment when the door is closed, preventing the loss of the cool air. Place a sheet of paper between the door and the door jamb and with the door closed as per normal, try to pull it out. It will come out with a bit of an effort but it shouldn’t come out too easily and it should not just fall out by itself. Try this a various places around the door, i.e. top, bottom and both sides.

If the condenser unit is clean and dust free and the seals are OK, then perhaps the thermostat is faulty.
