Power and Volume Button Flex Cable and Bracket Replacement

My power button is acting up. Pressing the power button sometimes does not work and sometimes it results in a double press when pressed once. I am thinking of replacing the Power and Volume Button Flex Cable and Bracket, but I have questions prior doing so.

1, After removing the screen and the middle shield, does the motherboard need to come out as well to replace the part? How about the battery?

My thought is that I have to remove the motherboard first then I will be able to access the Power and Volume Button Flex Cables. Just not sure on the battery.

I have seen many guides and tear downs, but I have yet to see a video on how the Power and Volume Button Flex Cable and Bracket is actually replaced. I want to know what components of the Pixel 2 XL need to removed in order for it to be replaced.

Thanks for reading and I hope you can help me out!!

@long8trang I'm in the same boat as you, were you able to do the replacement?

@Donncha Fahy

Yea I went ahead and took my phone apart and got it done. Motherboard does need to come out. It was rather simple. Battery can stay in. Power and Volume bracket will need a little push to get out.

Button was not pressing when i installed it at first, but after a little bit I was able to get it in. If one of the buttons don't press you will have to put everything together and the middle frame will help apply pressure to the button and it will be pressable.

Also a reminder to be super careful with the screen!! I removed mine without any cracks at all, but after putting the screen back on to test the buttons my whole right screen was white and super bright but the touch screen still worked. So in the end, my repair ended up needing a new screen because of a mess up somewhere.

Let me know if you have anymore question!!

@long8trang Ah awesome, thanks for replying! Yea I'm a bit wary of doing this at all in case I damage the screen. My power button is still functioning most of the time, so it's more of an annoyance than anything.

Did you need glue, clamps etc to put the screen back on? Are there any particular guides/videos that you found useful?

@Donncha Fahy I just watched a bunch of the teardown videos of the phone before actually doing the repair. All you need is the screen adhesive to get the screen back together. I bought the screen adhesive that iFixit sells and it worked like a charm to put my new screen on.

Yea I would recommend bringing this to a shop if you are really worried. I was really confident when doing this but the end result costed me an extra $100 for a new screen. :(
