Preguntas 139 Ver todo

I'm looking for a repair manual for a 14.5hp 42' Murray riding mower

The safety switch connected to the blade engagment lever is stuck in the open position, not letting the engine to turn over and start. Would like to locate the switch and either replace it or by pass it.

do you have a serial or model number?

I bought the mower used at the 1st of the summer. The sticker under the seat where the serial # and model # is gone. All I have is the engine model #.It is a 14.5 hp B/S motor 42"cut hydrostatic drive.Murray says they did not make that model tractor so I assume it was made after 2005 when briggs&stratton took over.Think I've located the safety switch on the frame would like to know if it can be bypassed?Thank You.

The engine will not even turn over/nothing...just replaced the ignition switch thought that it might have gone bad still nothing. Before ,when it was running ok,I would have to pull back on the blade engagement lever to start it then engage the blades to mow. Then it started shutting off when I engaged the blades/now it will not start at all.Like I've said it acts like the engagement safety switch is stuck.

I would like to thank oldturkey and Phillip both for the response amd the advice.I did get the mower running and the grass is cut.I found the switch and was able to replace it for about $17.Thanks again and I'll be back if I ever need anymore advice.Mike

Mike, see if this looks familiar. It's the diagram for the 425007x92A from Murray. It might help you to find where the problem is.

UPDATE

Mike, try to wire your ignition directly without any of the accessories and see what you get. That way you know that the error is in some other circuit.

Thanks guys for the input it's helped. The seat switch had already been bypassed but from the diagram I see it along with the brake/clutch switch are all interconnected. What happened was when I was mowing it shut down for no reason.I disengaged the blades, restarted it and it shut off when I engaged the blades. After doing this a cpl times it would not start at all in fact it doesn't do anything just as if the blades were engaged. This is why I would like to by pass it.It's not a money problem it's just a pain in the a$$ problem.I don't have anyway of taking it to a repair shop and I know it should be something I can fix myself. Thanks again...Mike

Does the engine sound rough? Any chance it's engine related and not the safety electricals? If it turns over but doesn't start it could be a compression, spark or carb issue. If it runs and then isn't able to turn over later you could have a bad battery or charging system.

Mike,

I'll just go purely off my circuitry knowledge here, sorry I cant seem to find too much pertinent information in research because we are lacking model numbers.

1st off, you found the safety switch under the seat right?

Safety switches for riding lawn mowers are typically nothing more than on/off plunger switches. When no one is on the seat the plunger is up and the switch is open/off. When someone is on the seat, the plunger will be pushed in and will cause the switch to become closed/on...completing the circuit. So all you have to do is connect the two wires that are plugged into the switch and you should by pass it.

NOTE: The above explanation assumes a "fail-open" switch and that you need a closed circuit to run the engine.

POST NOTE: Definitely don't recommend bypassing the switch. Safety equipment is there for a reason. Odds are you could rig up a $2 radio shack switch if you're concerned about money :)
