Why is my disc not spining

shawn james, it is possible that the drive in your PS2 is worn out so that the disc 'brake' will not disengage. It is also possible that the door isn't recognized as closed. The "brake" looks like an eraser under the CD door that stops the disc when the console is turned off. The other problem could be the console is not detecting that the CD door is closed and thus will not spin up the disc to start. Of course then then there is always the possibility of a bad spindle motor, and I have also read that a bad laser/lens can give this problem too, but less likely. It would be more likely if you get a read error. Anyhow, at this time my suggestion would be to disassemble your PS2 and to take a closer look at what is going on.
