Hi,
Go to the phone’s Menu > Answering Setup > Record Time setting to select whether to have 1 minute or 4 minutes for recorded message or Announce only.
Here’s the user manual for the phone. Go to p.20 to view details about the Answering System options.
Hopefully this is what you meant and not that you cannot alter the setting from Announce only to the other options when trying to.

Uniden Dect 6.0
There is a capital A lit on the screen and i cannot get messages. It says ' answering system is on'....then says announce only and wont record any messages

Uniden Dect 6.0 applies to a lot of different Uniden models and their menus can differ.
There should be a model number on the phone or perhaps on/under the base station somewhere.
