My computer screen randomly starting looking like this. There are no cracks in it; nothing happened to it. It was just sitting there and this happened. Does anyone know what’s wrong with it and how to fix it?

What model is your chromebook exactly?

This is probably a bad screen, you might need to change it altogether.

It could be the wire connecting it to the rest of the system, but since it looks like this, i doubt it.

@chris_p hi! It is a XE500C13 model. Also, how would I change the screen? Does it need to be taken to someone or could i do it myself?

@salmonjapan hi! The screen isn’t cracked at all. I looked really closely to see if it was cracked or not and it’s not. It was sitting my bed, and when I opened the computer it looked like this. Also, to replace the whole panel would I need to go to someone to get that fixed? Also are you sure it even can be fixed?

@unicorngirl you can try the guide on here

Samsung Chromebook 3 XE500C13-K02US Display Screen Replacement

You can take it to someone if you don't feel comfortable with these repairs (although ifixit does not condone such behaviour :P)

Hi @unicorngirl

based on the look, it looks cracked...

maybe someone accidentally dropped the laptop hit or close....

the alternative way is to replace the whole panel

@unicorngirl ... the consensus here is correct. this is undoubtedly a damaged ( internal crack) of the lcd screen. you can see the point of impact all the way on the right side of the display, mid way up. youll want to replace the display to get this device running again. if youll list your model number, we can try to give you a few options on purchase if youre going this route.

@unicorngirl XE500C13-*****? need the rest of the model id. the entire display will be replaced, something you can do with a screwdriver. its not the outer layer thats damaged...this is why you dont see a crack. its the inner layer that has broken. again..its on the right outermost side of the screen and in the middle. indicative of over pressure when grabbing and carrying or closing the lid on something on this point. follow up with the rest of the model number and we can give you a link to the proper part and a guide on how to replace.

here is an idea of what youre getting into: ( please match your search for replacement screen and how to with the exact model number before attempting order or repair.:

Hi! Sorry I didn’t realize I didn’t put the full model before . It is a Samsung Chromebook 3 XE500C13-K01US.

no prob... for ease of install here is a link to the entire display assembly:

Samsung Chromebook XE500C13 Display Assembly

this will allow you to open the device and access the hinges, disconnect the ribbon cables and replace with the new display unit.

if you dont mind some extra time in disassembly and re assembly, this is all thats needed for the repair:

11.6" Chromebook LCD N116BGE-EA2REV.C1

here is a guide to tear down and replace the screen:
