Ok so I have been having problems with the optical drive in my g4 I would spit them out after I put them in so I bought a replacement and now the drive keeps the disk inside but the laptop doesn't even recognize the drive it self. The drive it self makes noise and if I look inside I can see the laser but it still won't load.

If you bought the new drive from a trusted seller like iFixit, I would go for replacing the cable. Here's the part: [producto vinculado inexistente o deshabilitado: IF183-022]
If you got it off eBay, it could be the drive.
