What good GPUs are compatible with iMac late 2009 27 inch?

I am wondering the best possible mxm 3.0 type b GPU compatible with my iMac late 2009 27 inch. I have found a couple of GPUs on eBay such as the 880m and the 980m both with higher cram capacities which I would prefer for games and such. And if those don’t work if someone could comment the best possible one for around 200 preferably under.

Thanks

The problem with more modern games is they run these older GPU to hard and burn them out.

While simple card games and low FPS graphical games will run just fine on this older system Doom and anything like it will quickly run the system into the red zone!

I know thats not what you want to hear! I would frankly just get a used 2013 or newer system as they have much better GPU’s.

Oh because I'm trying to restore one that I previously used.

So you burnt it out already ;-}

Here's what your system came with:

● ATI Radeon HD 4670 256MB, Apple P/N 661-5314

● ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB, Apple P/N 661-5315

This is the last series of MXM boards Apple used in the 2011 27" model:

● AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512MB, Apple P/N 661-5967

● AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1GB, Apple P/N 661-5968

● AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB, Apple P/N 661-5969

Using just any MXM board which is not flashed with the Apple custom ROM will loose functions like brightness control as well as sleep.
