iMac's 27” 2009 MB (820-2507-A) interchangeable with 820-2733?

I’m wondering if the Core Duo 2 MB (Motherboard) (820-2507-A) from the Late 2009 27” iMac, is interchangeable with the 2009 27” iMac i7 MB 820-2733? My MB died leaving my iMac completely powerless so I am looking to replace the old with a working one and instead of buying the same Core Duo 2 I was thinking it would be better if I upgraded to the i7, since I found one for $50 which still has the cpu/heatsink attached to it which is a good deal so only if it is possible and interchangeable.

I just want to hear a chime and see a white screen on the display again and have already torn the insides of the iMac completely. Since it is the same year 2009 core duo 2 —> 2009 i7 im thinking it would be fine but just double checking. Only different years wouldn’t be compatible correct? Such as 2009 -> 2010/2011 i7? I will be plugging in my same ATI Radeon 256MB Graphics card.

It looks exactly the same and all the plugs seem to be there which I double checked, only a few minor differences like the battery location and that silver spike thing, so I hope this transplant is possible….

The 2309 Core2Duo & 2374 i5/i7 use the same logic board, just the CPU is different. So yes! You can swap out the logic board with the i7 CPU. Or, if the CPU its self is bad then just swap out the CPU, just make sure you get the correct one.

I'm so happy to hear that. I was having trouble finding a replacement Core2Duo Logic Board with CPU and I could only come across the 2374 i7. So now I can have peace of mind that when I plug it into my 27" shell that it will turn on again!

How did this work out for you mike? I found a late 2009 27” c2d iMac with a dead logic board for $50 and was just looking into replace it it with a 2733 board. Did all the connectors work and the graphics card?!?

Thanks for your help

As far as CPU swaps go I believe Dan is wrong. The C2D and i7 use different sockets.

But changing boards to use the i7 should be possible

@nandor690 - If you have a dead logic board then you'll need to swap out the full logic board.

Yes, but I’m wondering if any of the connectors or lcd need to all be changed. Going to a different board
