Will replacing the screen fix all display issues?

My old iPhone 8 has numerous screen/display issues due to what I believe to be drop excessive drop damage. It has multiple long cracks through the screen and the bottom corners are shattered and chipping.

I upgraded recently and was going to sell this old phone for parts, but realized I could sell or gift it if I repaired it. I know that replacing the screen with ifixit parts would repair the cracks and chipping, but I’m wondering if the display issues mean that there are other parts of the phone not doing well and the internal damage would persist even through a screen repair. If this was the case I’d rather not go through the hassle.

The display issues are:

  • a thin black bar on the right side of the screen,
  • LCD bleed in the bottom right corner,
  • twitchy/erratic scanlines that bring dark spots and alternate between horizontal/vertical,
  • two hortizontal white lines one near the bottom the screen and one at the top
  • And the screen seems to be perptually dimmed

I’ll add photos showing all these problems but some may be hard in still images to show the flickering. Otherwise everything else in the phone seems to function well like the lock/volume buttons, home button + touch id, camera/audio is fine.

I think a new screen will solve these problems, don’t forget to copy the serialnr of the old screen to the new screen otherwise True Tone will not be pressent.

Putting a new screen on it will fix all of those problems. If you haven't replaced a screen before you should watch some repair videos on YouTube. The screen should cost about 20 to 30 dollars for a quality screen. You will need special screw drivers to open the phone. Ifixit sells the screen and the screw driver together in a set I believe. Make sure you disconnect the battery before you take the screen off or put back on so it doesn't damage the motherboard. Make sure you are very careful changing the home button, the cables are fine and easy to tear. If that happens you can put on an aftermarket home button on but you will lose touch Id. The factory home button is coded to the motherboard and touch Id will not work if you put on a home button that is not the original one. I hope this helps.
