Fans still running full speed after thermal paste replacement?

Hi all! I recently replaced the thermal paste on my MBP 15” Retina Mid-2015, and my temps are looking much better, but my fans are still running full speed! Any thoughts about why this is happening? Photos from Monity and Macs Fan Control attached below!

Install this great app TG Pro Take a snapshot of the main window make sure you size the Apps window so all of the sensors and fans are visible in the snapshot (top to bottom) Post it here for us to see Agregar imágenes a una pregunta existente

@danj Thanks! I don't have TG Pro, but I do have Monity and Macs Fan Control, so I attached the photos from those above (taken about a minute apart).

TG Pro offers more useful options in my option. If you buy the full version the voltage sensors are also diagnostically tested which is why I prefer it when debuging.

For now let's just give the onboard diagnostics a try. Restart your system and hold the D key. You may get an error trying to launch it as Apple messed up the EFI. If you do get it to work what is the error code.

Reference: Mac startup key combinations

@danj I'll look into it! I did already run Diagnostics and First Aid, no errors reported on either! And I've installed a fresh copy of Catalina as well.

How full is your drive and how big as well as what processes are running in background?

I know this is a dumb thing to add; but, did you clean out the fans while you were inside the MacBook. Or did you tamper with a temperature sensor?

@gordonjf I dusted the fans but didn’t open the casings or disconnect them completely, and I didn’t touch the temp sensor as far as I know! It does seem to be improving now that I’ve done some more file clean up, reinstalled my OS, and reset the SMC!

@heyomayo Well that's good. In my opinion, MacBooks can just have weird issues that you don't know how to solve. Including mine.

@gordonjf Agreed!!! We try our best :P
