Why does my iPhone 7 act like the headphones are in

Good morning you lovely lot,

I’ve got an iPhone 7, my customer said he was at work (Dusty builder) and he had a call and they couldn’t hear him and the speaker was greyed out. He plugged headphones in and they could hear him. Also with the headphones out we cannot do voice notes, you click the button and nothing happens. Siri also tells us to disconnect the headphones to set up Siri. I’ve tried a new top flex cable and a now charging cable all with no luck, i’ve checked the top connection point and all seems fine. I have done a hard reset still and update still with no luck.

I am really hoping this is not the Audio IC, What would everyone say and how do i check the Audio IC, i have a multi meter.

Thanks all

From what it sounds like it is audio ic but have you tested earpiece speaker and does that work at all?

@Jade Richards playing music with headphones plugged in would only come out speakers and then when making and receiving calls the earpiece or mic would not work and speaker button was greyed out :( How would you check the Audo IC though to be on the safe side?

It's a bad audio ic. It's a common problem with iPhone 7 and 7 plus. The case is to weak and it flexes and the contacts on the chip are pulled apart. It can be fixed with micrsoldering. Make sure you have a professional do it. It most likely tore a pad off on the board and a jumper wire will have to be put on. There are only a few I would recommend, jessa from iPad rehab and Jason from sts telecom. Both have channels on YouTube and websites. Their prices are reasonable and the quality of their work is great. I would give them a try

What is a bionic chip?

I'm guessing he's referring to the CPU (it is the A10 Fusion in this model), but the CPU doesn't fail like this.

I know this is probably too late, but this is a classic Audio IC failure. As for checking it, there’s really no way to other than ensuring you have good parts. The problems are caused by a broken connection under a chip. Since the pad goes to a tiny resistor, you could try measuring it against a known good board, but there’s really no use. This issue is so widespread that the Audio IC will have a broken pad in 99% of these cases.

Sorry this is too late, but I hope it shows you more about the Audio IC failure!

Measure the R1103 resistor with diode mode ( red on ground , black on the each side of the resistor) multimeter should give you around 466 and 485. If the values are different from those than you should remove the audio ic and make a jumper on c12.
