Frigidaire model ffhb2740psba SY EF error code but eva fan runs fine

So this is confusing to me, our garage freezer has had this error before and it was due to a freeze up likely with the high humidity we deal with. This was ~1.5 yrs ago. The error code popped up again and I figured it was the same issue. Pulled it apart and no ice buildup at all. Went into diagnostic mode and the fan can be started without a problem both on low and high mode. Not sure where this leaves me as my understanding was this problem was a air movement issue caused by 1) ice buildup, 2) bad fan, or 3) bad board. Since there is no ice and the fan works fine, what else should I be looking for?

Thanks

Hi @mpatter ,

When in diagnostic mode, does the evap fan run OK for a minimum of 10 seconds in both low and high speed and can you hear the speed change when going from low to high speed?

@jayeff

Yes runs for >10 sec each modes and can see/hear the difference in modes.

@mpatter ,

You may need to check the wiring /wiring connections between the fan and the control board for any loose connections, pinched wires etc

Jayeff, I checked all of the visible wires, any chance there are ones in the fridge portion? I also dont understand why the diagnostic mode would work fine with the fan but not the running mode.

Thanks

@jayeff Well wiggled everything I could and have put everything back together. Turned on and error isn't up yet. Going to see if it can get back to temp and if it does I will run with it. Thanks for the input jayeff, if problem pops up again I will post here again.

@mpatter ,

Looking at the service data sheet for your model, the fan is a 3 wire connection from the fan connector pins 4, 1 & 2 to connector MB1 pins 2, 3, & 1 and then onto the mainboard connector J4 pins 7, 8 & 9

MB1 is behind the toe grill which may or may not be of significance as it may be a bit more exposed than other connectors

Here’s an image if you have trouble downloading the service data sheet if you already haven’t got it.
