half of screen turned black LG tv

i have a 55UH7650 lg tv that recently started having half or more of screen turn black. i took back off tv to see if anything was obviously disconnected but could not find anything. i put back together and turned back on and was working fine for about an hour but then had same problems. would appreciated any suggestions.

Hi @bruric42 ,

Is there still an image there when the screen turns black?

Try shining a torch at an angle close to the screen to check if it is still there or not.

If it is still there then there’s a backlight problem in that half of the screen. Could be a faulty LED getting too hot and then not working shutting down the whole strip for example but this is only a guess. Don’t know LG that well so not sure if it is a single power feed from the power board to the backlights and then multipled there or a couple of feeds, one to each of the LED arrays.

@jayeff yes there is a picture when you shine a light on it. i saw on another forum to clean one of the connections to the "t board" not sure if that is right term. but disconnected white 1 1/2 inch strip from board and cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and the clip on the board. it is back working as it should for now, so hopefully that fixed it. thanks for your help.

@bruric42 ,

It could be coincidence that when you cleaned the strip it worked OK.

You may have accidentally moved something else without noticing it.

Found a link to the service manual for the TV which may help. Scroll down to the 2nd post which has the .pdf file with your TV model number next to it and click on it.

Unfortunately you have to join to download it, but it may work out in the end if you have hold of the schematics and possibly the troubleshooting flowcharts for the TV
