No power. Dead A1701 iPad Pro 10.5"

I have an iPad Pro 10.5” model number A1701. I am trying to diagnose and fix a power issue. I've tried two batteries and three charge ports and the current on my USB detector reads 0.01 amps at 5.13 volts no matter what. I've tested multiple capacitors, but I lack the guides to tell me which capacitors are associated with which circuits. I don't see anything burnt up or anything, but I need to get power to this somehow. Any suggestions or leads?

Same thing happened to my daughters, 3 years old and she only used it for homework & netflix so not heavy use. Took it to the genius bar and was told it would be £429 to repair so advised me to buy new ipad instead.

Gutted as I bought this expecting it to last a minimum of 5 years for the price and to only get 3 years light use feels like I've been robbed. Will definitely think twice before buying another ipad now

Just replaced the battery witj one supplied by Ifixit on the same model. Charge current is shown as 0.46A, but up to now no luck.

What now? Charge connector module or battery charge circuitry on the motherboard?

A bit of background info on what happened to the iPad leading up to this issue would be helpful. Was it repaired, dropped or came into contact with water…or did it “die” out of the blue. Sometimes using “cheapo” chargers can cause similar symptoms as well.

As for the problem, assuming it happened out of the blue, the normal troubleshooting is battery, charge port, charge circuit (on the logic board). If it is logic board related, then it would be a Tristar or PMIC issue and neither of those is a DIY repair by any stretch.

If the iPad was dropped, repaired or got wet, then it could be anything. Your best bet is to have it looked at by a shop that does micro-soldering repairs. The 10.5 is difficult to repair as there isn’t much technical info available.

Brand new ipad pro 12.9, have had it for less than a month. Completely died overnight last night. Will not charge and will not turn on. Has been in magic keyboard case, plus a padded sleeve, between uses, and never dropped, bashed or water damaged. No idea what's going on...

A week ago my iPad stopped charging. (2017 Pro model.) After going through the obvious variables with no success I scheduled a genius bar appointment. They did their diagnostics, told me the port was fine, and that there was some sort of internal short. I believe he said the charge circuit. Unfixable. It’s a brick and I have no options other than to buy a new one. So, here I am on iFixit looking for info. I’m sure I don’t have the ability for that type of repair. Are there places willing to tackle that sort of repair?

Hi, I got the same problem. iPad suddenly stopped working. Won't turn on any more, not charging and won’t connect to a mac. I've tried the DFU reset, but had no response. (DFU reset: while plugged in a mac with iTunes; Hold the home+power button for 10 sec and then let the power button go but keeping the home button pressed for an other 5 sec) Also took it to apple genius bar but they could not see the iPad nor could they find the problem.

I would like to know if any one has the same problem with this iPad Pro model. And how common this issue is.

iPad Pro Model A1701

Thanks,

Same thing here. Frustrating. Working great, put it on the charger. Grabbed it went to work, never turned on again. I didn’t try to repair until now. That is, other than restore and all that. I was going to take it into a shop today, but reading these comments has me about to give up.

I am having this same exact issue with a friends 10.5” IPad Pro (Model A1701). She said she occasionally used it, nothing heavy, but not light use either. She put it on the charger, it was working fine and took it off and it wouldn’t turn on. Her first thought was that the battery had died inside, so she ordered a replacement battery and had me replace it for her. Still, no dice. I’ve had it on the charger for a while now and it looks like it is dead dead… Sadly. I feel like the 2017 iPad Pro’s are still very capable devices, but with some very fatal flaws as seen in this thread.

Same issue over here. iPad A1701 - dies suddenly from nowhere and nothing works for recovering it back dunno why but it is kinda strange that there are so many users experiencing the same thing.

Thanks Thomas.

I think it’s really strange that it just stops working from one day to the other? And I’m wondering how many other iPads out there just stopped working without any reason?!

I also got a new iPad but I feel I could have use the iPad 10.5 pro for a much longer time or give it to any of the kids…

Would love to hear from others..

Thanks

My 10.5 stopped working this past week. It has always been in a case, has never been dropped, and there was no water damage. It just stopped working. After multiple attempts, it was recognized by my Macbook long enough for me to get a complete backup, but nothing since. It's just dead. I've only had it 4 yrs and had really hoped it would last longer, esp since I am *not* a power user by any means.

my ipad pro was the love of my life (just kidding) and the same thing happened. although it possibly my have gotten some moisture being in the bathroom but not wet.anyway i learned to live without it until I bought the new iPad 10 which is great and I like the orientation of the camera. However, my husband is now Jones in for an iPad and I want to see if I can repair the port before we invest in a new iPad. I believe between the two of us we have the technical skills including soldering to replace the port. I wondered if you or anyone has a recommendation on the right kit to purchase, including tools to take care of the job.
