Resolving intermittent connection betwen iPhone 7 and mid-2015 MacBook

For the past couple months, I have been experiencing issues when trying to connect my iPhone 7 to my mid-2015 MacBook Air via USB for charging/syncing. On certain occasions, the phone's power connection will cut in/out and I cannot charge/sync. I believe the issue might be related to the iPhone 7's battery on account of the following points:

  • I experience the issue with both of the MacBook Air's USB ports
  • I have tried multiple Lightning to USB cables
  • Apple replaced my entire logic board when I brought my computer in for examintion regarding this issue and I continue to experience the issue with the replacement logic board
  • The issue seems to happen most often if I connect the iPhone when it has very low battery (<10%) and happens less often if I charge the phone using a wall charger for a little while first
  • I do not believe I have experienced any issues with any of my other iDevices when connecting them to my computer

Some other information: the battery currently has about 84% of its original capacity and I never have this issue when using a wall charger. Is anyone familiar with this issue and could it be some combination of the battery and how the MacBook Air accomplishes its power delivery to the device?

Thank you in advance.

I think the best way to figure this out will be getting a USB power meter USB Mini Voltmeter It will allow you to monitor the voltage and current draw.

Compare your system & the USB charger. If you have access to the 10 watt see what it tells you.
