Preguntas 198 Ver todo

Computer wont turn on, no chime, fans pulsing.

I shut down my Power Mac on Wednesday and on Thursday morning it refused to boot.

The white led lights up when the power button is pressed but does not stay on. I can hear the fans pulsing.

When this happens, I can not turn the system off, the only to shut it down is to unplug it.

There is no chime and the screen is blank.

When I open it up and remove the plastic air deflector the fans increase speed but continue to pulse.

I have disconnected all peripherals.

I have swapped out the ram.

I have reset the PMU.

Can this be a power supply problem?

How can I test or diagnose the power supply.

I run my own consultancy and this is my work computer, I need it yesterday.

first thing to check is your video card. check to make sure that it's properly seated in it's connector. I know that sounds strange, but i've seen this before.

to check the power supply, remove the cap covering the connector. disconnect the connector from the logic board. plug in your power supply, do not turn on your power mac. using a volt meter, check the voltage between pin 1 and pin 23. you should get 5 v. if you get 5 V, then your power supply is good and your logic board is the most likely point of failure. if you do not get 5 V, the nyour power supply would be the most likely point of failure.

i'm having a hard time posting an image to my answer, so i'll try to be descriptive. Pin 1 is on the oposite side from the clip on the short side. pin 23 is on the same side as the clip, second from the end on the long side.

I have this same problem and it seems that there are many others of us out there. My G5 just turned itself off and hasn't stated up since.

I have tried many things and will try replacing the video card (reseating did not help). Is there anyone else who has solved this problem and at what expense? Is this trusty old machine ready for the trash heap?

Please let me know if you have a solution!
