Bottom element and thermostat replaced
I replaced my bottom element and thermostat. Each side of the element is getting 120v but I’m not getting 240 across. Bypassed bottom thermostat with a jumper and now it does. How could I get 120 from each feed then not 240 total?

@alice1980 what make/model is your water heater? Post some pictures of your thermostats and how you have it wired? You did make sure that your top element works and that you did completely refill the tank so as not dry-fire any element since they will immediately burn out. It’s a rheem bottom thermostat only has the black wire in and then back out screw in element so I didn’t have to drain top element is fine Hot water for 5 minutes just from top

Have you checked that the bottom thermostat is OK?
