This is caused by a bad LCD panel, usually when exposed to excessive heat, or sunlight. I had my old LCD TV do the same thing (I left it facing a window, and somehow the direct sunlight it was damaging it over time, and causing it to fade to red) When it goes back to normal, is it spontaneous, or does it fade back to normal colors? Also, do you keep the computer in a hot, or bright (From sunlight) environment? That would be the likely cause of the problem. Here is a replacement panel, and Here is a guide to replace the panel.

First, I would take the computer apart, the LVDS cable may be loose or may need to be replaced

If that isn't it, I would go ahead and replace the screen, it may be bad

If that doesn't help(mayer, I have done my homework), it could have a NVIDIA issue and apple will fix it free

hi lunchbx2, i've been encountering this problem for the past 6 months and can't find a fix. They told me to replace the lcd but i find it kinda expensive. Were you able to trace the problem?

Hi

Dont trust Apple Genius. If I paid them to replace the LCD then I would had the same problem

I have replace the screen and inverter; had a spare data cable and it didn't work.

I'm trying to get hold of an inverter/antenna cable to see if was that.

Also when I press some part of the top left or right casing the screen goes back to normal

Gonna check the top casing to see if there a short too ;-)

I taken the laptop to Apple Genius and told them it wasnt the logic board

They came to the conclusion (which I knew) it was the logic board and wanted $315 to fix it
