USB not connecting/synching. Burned PCB DZP4.

Block Image

Anyone knows what type of component is DZP4 (same as DZP2 and 3)? It;s located just above charge port on thumb wheel side, it has 6 legs and TOF6 printed on it. The iPod wont chanrge nor synch via USB. Charging via car charger works fine (12V).

Maybe it’s RT8016 DC step down converter?

That component seems the one which transfers USB data. On the 3G there are two components that handle USB and FW power below the dock connector on the logic board, these are labeled DZ1 (It handles the 12V from the FW charger) and DZ3 which handles the 5V coming from the USB connector. My 15GB 3rd Gen from this question (iPod showing empty battery icon with fully charged battery) froze when connected via USB. I have noticed the chip burnt itself (If you look closely on the pictures from my question you can see some of the white paint from the iPod front cover on DZ3). This seemingly happens when the logic board has a short (had a similar occurrence a few years ago on an iPod Photo).

I hope that this information might help you since I haven’t had a shorted 5G board (yet).

if you have a donor board I’d recommend replacing the part.
