Battery suddenly not recognized. MBP Fn 2017

Hi,

One year after I purchased my MacBook Pro 2017 Function Keys. I had some issues with the battery, after sometime I purchased a brand new one from iFixit and changed it, everything worked great.

Now, after reapplying thermal paste to the CPU the battery doesnt get recognized, if I unplug the USB-C charger the system turns off.

I have reset the SMC, PRAM but nothing seems to work, I’m suspicious of the Battery Daughter Data Cable (flex) that goes from the Small battery board to the Logic Board, I’ve purchased a new one but it will arrive in aprox 45 days, and still I’m not certain that it is broken or something.

Currently I’m running it plugged to the charger but I want to know if there is something else I can do in the meantime.

@pekkachu - Yep! The cable is damaged. The battery is not communicating its status to SMC.

First I'm surprised you needed to replace the battery so soon. You really need to monitor your battery more aggressively. Apple did have an extended warranty program for bad batteries in the 2017 systems June 27, 2018: Apple offers free battery replacements for faulty 13-inch Fn MacBook Pros.

Apple has a few other recall issues in this series. If you can get your self to an Apple Store or authorized service center I would as free is better than $$

Getting back to your issue I would install his gem of an app: CoconutBattery it will allow you to monitor your battery health. Post a snapshot of the apps window so we can see Agregar imágenes a una pregunta existente

Also why did you re-do your systems thermal paste? Is your system overheating?

Yeah, i went !&&* with original battery, full story can be read on this post MacBook Pro with few battery cycles, cant calibrate it

tldr, my model didnt qualify for the apple battery replace program, i sent mbp to apple and they wanted to charge like $400 because battery could not be just changed, they had to change the whole bottom part (bullshit) so thats why i ended up replacing it myself using ifixit guide

I wanted to reapply thermal paste because last 6 months i ve been using it extensively with huge amounts of cpu intensive task (Logic Pro X projects with lots of tracks) and i wanted to lesser the impact on the cpu and do a general cleaning of the board afterwards (it was clean but to remove some dust and all, no liquid spill damage)

Though i was deep searching the forums, someone had a similar issue like mine, also disconnected Battery daughter flex cable and ripped it apart (he didnt realized) so i think it is the issue.. im going to wait for the replace to arrive, no other way

@pekkachu - Just so you know we had a second case like yours No battery detection with new Logic Board and replacing the battery sensor cable solve it!
