Preguntas 2 Ver todo

Are there seriously no replacement lcd's for this?

My 2 year old pulled it down off a table and the lcd got damaged. I figured why buy a new one mine still works minus the screen, I can just replace it right? Wrong.. There's not a single teardown video or replacement part.. Now I have a glorified home speaker… Has anyone else ran into this problem with some type of resolution? It's been almost a year since they came out.

Here's a super brief teardown from CNET

As for finding the actual screen we may be able to come up with something but from the brief searching I did I wasn't able to find any replacement screens. If we can find out who manufactures it and a model number then I think we might be able to. Perhaps that information is on the back side of the screen?

Solución Elegida

It took nearly 2 years for me to fix this issue myself. Neither Google, or any repair shop were of any real help. I found through vigorous forum searching that I could order a replacement screen on Aliexpress https://www.aliexpress.com/item/40004005....

Seems there is only 1 version of this hub as there were no revisions specified. I took a chance, and ordered it for around $25. It took almost 3 months to get here, but I’m assuming because of the pandemic. The LCD comes with face plate and LCD. The digitizer is connected to the actual hub, which is a ribbon cable connected to the LCD on the left middle side. You will need either a heat gun, heating pad, or blow dryer to loosen up the adhesive. Take a flat spudger and work the adhesive out. Once you loosen the adhesive you can literally pry it off with little regard for the LCD since you have a replacement. The replacement is straightforward. I posted pictures, and videos for reference. Good luck.

Hello what adhesive did you use to glue the screen back on?

Thank you.

@George Alberto Hey George, I happen to have an Industrial Adhesive on hand E6000. You can find it at any hardware store, and probably cost about $3.00. It comes in a tube of either black or white adhesive. It can be a bit messy if you aren't precise, but all you need are small amounts along the frame, and any mess made can either be pre accounted for, or easily cleaned off afterwards.

The 2nd method is a lot less messier, and a bit more precise. Amazon, Ebay, or any random entity online should have 1 to 2 mm adhesive strip rolls, or double sided electric tape. Here's an example (https://www.amazon.com/Kaisiking-Adhesiv...)

Also if you decide to use Adhesive Strips be sure to lay them down along of frame completely before removing the other side of the tape. Otherwise you could experience lifting due to dust particles on the strip.

@George Alberto Lol thanks George. I was hoping it wasn't too long winded. Glad I could be of help.

Thanks to your link Josh I got myself a replacement panel from Aliexpress. However, after installation the touchscreen does not appear to work (cant click on screen button "Complete Setup" ). Has anyone else faced similar issues?

Would love to know if its a faulty hardware issue or something that can be fixed / set up on the user end.

The problem you face is the cost of the unit is less than $100 USD. Presently, Google is selling them for $79!

This is what our throw-away society has become! Toss it aside and get a new one.

I wish I could force all manufacturing to be serviceable and designed so sub parts are salvable and the rest is easily recyclable! This is not that big a leap!

josh spoon and venkata krishna chintapalli at this time you really have nothing to lose. I would proceed and try to remove the screen the same way as shown in the link from smartin. It can’t break anymore than it already has. After that, take a good look at the back of the screen. Post a couple of really good images. I would not be surprised to find some manufacturer label, sticker, markings on that. Let’s see if that will help to hunt down a couple of screens. Don't throw stuff out just because of some major challenges. Let us try to work on finding solutions for others that are faced with the same issues.

I must admit I struggled to get the parts I also resorted to Ali Express after this sitting in my garage for 18months. Here is the video I filmed on how to repair it: https://youtu.be/AE75AVNT12w
