No option for "Adjust keyboard brightness in low light"?

I recently replaced the display on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) with Touch Bar and now the keyboard backlight is not adjusting automatically in low light. I’ve tried manually adjusting the keyboard backlight and there is no response. When I got to the appropriate system preferences for the keyboard there is no option for me to check or uncheck “Adjust keyboard brightness in low light“. It just lists the options “Touch Bar shows [Expanded Control Strip]“ and “Press Fn key to [Show F!, F2, etc. Keys]“. Has the keyboard backlight somehow been disabled, or could this be a result of a defective display? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Where did you get the display and the P/N you ordered?

@danj Part number is 661-10037 purchased from la.tronics through eBay.

Did you ever resolve this issue changed my screen using same supplier now no keyboard brightness. ?

We eventually determined that the display we received was incompatible. We replaced it with a separate known-good display from a same model machine and the issue was resolved.

While the part number you supplied is the correct one for the 2018/19 models I fear you got a 2016/17 model by mistake!

You’ll need to return it and either get a replacement or your money back to get the correct part from a better source TheBookYard - 2018/19 MacBook Pro 13" Complete Display P/N 661-10037 Vs TheBookYard - 2016/17 MacBook Pro 13" Complete Display P/N 661-07971

This shows the 2016/2017displays as compatible with the 2018/2019 models. Is that incorrect? It does list a different part number though. MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2016-2017) Display Assembly

They are not! Trust me I had the same issue! I've posted an update to the iFixit store for the correction in there listing. They have been out of stock for a while which is why I had pointed you to TheBookYard.

The BookYard lists the 2016 & 2017 as compatible with each other. It does not list the 2018 & 2019 models as compatible with the 2016 or 2017 at all.

2018 MBP model is the 1st with HDR, so a 2016/2017 model would be a step backward.

- de

@David Smith - Some slight corrections:

The 2018 and newer models offer TrueTone were the backlight color temperature is shifted depending on what the FaceTime Camera sees for the lighting of the room on the internal display.

The internal display does not support HDR! You require an external display which offers it!
