What went wrong? iPad Mini 1 Digitizer Replacement

Hey. Last summer I got the chance to repair an iPad mini I got for free. Everything was working except the glass was cracked. I replaced the digitizer all good, no issues but at then I realised that the screen was not stuck down properly as the adhesive was weak. I proceeded to put very thin double sided tape on the corners of the iPad. I put a stack of large books on the back of the iPad and laid it down face down but then when I turned it back on there were lines on the LCD. Was just wondering what has gone wrong as I want to start repairing iPads now as I have repaired lots of iPhones now.

It sounds like you damaged your LCD. Lots of pressure can damage phone or tablet LCD’s, especially when it is applied for long periods of time. Tablets especially are susceptible to LCD damage as their digitizers are too large and thin to provide much support against anything pressing on it.

It is also possible that your LCD connector dislodged slightly, which is a common problem among iPads. You could start by giving it a solid smack on the back casing, right in the area of the connectors. If that doesn’t work you could try going in again and double checking to make sure the connectors are firmly seated.

Hope this helps!
