iPhone 7 pronounced dead by Apple - How can I get data off it?

I took my iPhone 7 to the Apple Genius Bar where they pronounced it dead and were unable to tell me why. The iPhone was being used to play music via the lightning connector into my car’s auxiliary outlet, went into the store, when I tried to connect again, it did not recognize the cable but instead played the music on the speakers. That night, when I tried to charge it, it still didn’t respond to being plugged in. I have tried several Apple lightning cables, several outlets, and of course tried to connect to my iMac to back up on iTunes - however, it was too late and the charge it had ran out. I am desperate for photos on it. This is when I went to the Apple store but they said I’d need to get in contact with engineers to find out what was wrong and go to a third-party for data recovery. Is there really nothing I can do or replace to get it on long enough for iTunes to recognize the device and back up the data?

I am terribly sorry to hear your phone has died.

The only thing that may help in the future is to make sure you use genuine charge cables and accessories. I’ve seen many charge ports and charge circuits completely fried on phones like this and it typically traces back to an off brand charge cable or water damage. And try to keep your photos backed up in two to three places at all times. Photos can be absolutely invaluable and irreplaceable.

Either way, there is an option to recover your data. I believe it is around $300 for data recovery at ipadrehab.com but it may be worth it to you to get the photos back. And it may be possible to have a working phone as well. I should warn you to not tamper with the phone or have someone else try either because the repair shops discourage this and occasionally will not even attempt to fix your phone.

Thank you for your response. I do only use Apple cables to avoid any compatibility issues so this cannot have anything to do with the cables used. Also, when at the Genius Bar in the Apple Store, they did check to see if there happened to be water damage and from the indicator, they said it was only slightly pink so it didn't seem it was water damage. Thank you for your suggestion and I will definitely be backing up better from here on out. Also, thank you for the recommendation! :)

Didn't think of this until now. I've seen simple pocket lint holding down pins and preventing a connection to the lightning cable. Check inside your charge port to see if the pins are dirty or being held down by lint or dirt. Do not use any sort of liquid to clean this. I've used tiny pieces of cardboard and very very minute amounts of isopropyl alcohol to clean the pins and restore connectivity to the charger and computer. Also, I wanted to note, the ipadrehab.com shop also has a $150 solution for no charge issues on iPhone 7. It may require a new charge port or charge circuit chip.

This is most likely a charge circuit issue (Tristar) so no need to pay an extra fee for "data recovery".

Thank you for your suggestion... As it turns out, when the Apple Store Genius Bar diagnosed my iPhone and repeatedly reassured my that it was NOT my charge port, it was. I took it to my local repair shop for a diagnosis rather expecting it to need a new charge circuit chip from these posts but it was just the port. My phone has been up and running like normal now and of course, the first thing I did was back it up! :)

Thank you all for your time and suggestions!! ♡

If your phone did not experience water damage a good repairer will be able to repair your charging circuit. If you send it in for data recovery it will cost around $300 and it might not end up a phone again. Send or take it for repair. It will cost half as much and you will have a working phone again.

There is a good chance if you can obtain an iPhone 7 charged battery you will be able to back up your data to iCloud.
