Why does my iPad Pro restart seemingly randomly, even when plugged in?

I have a 12.9-inch iPad Pro (1st gen I believe) that I like to use for sheet music. However, it suffers from the problem where it restarts, seemingly out of nowhere. After it reboots, the battery displays at 1% before going back to whatever level it was at before. This problem persists even when the iPad is plugged in or is at 100%. Besides this restarting issue, everything else seems to work fine.

The problem seems to happen less if I go for a long period of time (e.g. a week or more) without using the iPad, but as I use the iPad, the problem happens more and more often, eventually to the point where it does this around once a minute, making the iPad basically unusable.

I can try to record on video such a restart happening, if that would be of any use.

I visited an Apple store with this issue and there were no conclusive results.

Thank you.

"no conclusive results" but I suspect a recommendation as a starting point, yes? Sometimes biting the bullet and just going for it is the only answer. :-)

@propman Apple recommended just to buy a new one, but I’m hesitant to do so because the iPad is functional aside from the restarting, and the price is large. I’d (obviously) rather fix my current one if possible.

@sparklepony Seems funny that they wouldn't have recommended to install a new battery especially considering the age of the unit. Personally if I was wanting to fix the unit, that would be the first thing to be replaced, but then again I do all my own work on my own stuff. Others mileage might vary :-)

@sparklepony this alone “After it reboots, the battery displays at 1% before going back to ….” would lead me to replacing the battery. Remember that Apple does not want you to repair yours, they want you to buy a new one. Start off with a new battery then re-evaluate. Check this teardown Desmontaje iPad Pro 12.9 " or this video to see if you think you can get it done or you may consider getting it changed by some professional.
