3M adhesive tape for LCD replacement

I have watched many youtube videos with LCD matrix replacement. All of them are using 3M adhesive tape to attach LCD to aluminium body and to attach aluminium frame at the end of the replacement procedure.

But there are hundreds of different models of 3M tape. They are different in thickness and strength (VHB models seems to be better and more expensive). Could you please tell me which ones can be used and which ones cannot be used for the procedure?

I want to buy 3M F9473PC VHB. Is it good enough?

One of the issues you face when replacing the tape’s is going to far! Yes, you want something that’s strong so the glass doesn’t fall off. But you also don’t want it so strong you need a jackhammer to get the glass off in a future repair.

So… replace the tape in the same locations and size, don’t over apply and use the correct adhesion grade tape.

iFixit offers Tesa 61395 tape which is what Apple uses. If you are only doing one system this might be a cheaper option Precut Adhesive card

You’ll want to use a Heat Gun to soften to old tape and use Jimmy, iFixit Opening Picks (Set of 6) & Suction Handle.

For a reference here’s what you’ll be facing MacBook Pro Retina Display Teardown

Frankly, I‘ve given up trying to replace the LCD panels. It takes a lot of skill to get the glass out without damaging the bezel frame and the rubber gasket. Then you still have to fight through the dust on the glass surfaces and not damaging the polarizer & defuser sheets.

Here is one source for the full assembly MacBook Air 13" (Mid 2013-2017) Display Assembly

As far as I know, the problem could be solved by using heater plates. 7 ' ' inch plate for iPhone is very cheap. But can I use it with 13 ' ' inch screen of my MacBook?

Could you please tell me - the new LCD matrix usually contain adhesive tape on its edges or it does not?

The process you use on a iPhone does not apply here. You can't use a heater plate. You need a heat gun.

The discreet LCD panel you buy may have the tapes most don't. To be clear I don't go that far in the Air's or Retina models (they are constructed in the same way)

I replace the entire display lid assembly as its just a better repair. Consider your time, skills and risks if the repair fails.

I posted Youtube vid in your other question so you can see how thin the panel is.

This is not an easy repair for someone only doing a few a year.

Great! iFixit offers 1mm 2mm 4mm and 8mm models. Which of them should be use to attach the black LCD matrix to the aluminium case?

I would get a few cards
