Power button not working

i have the issue where the #1 LED works but nothing else. I hit the power button and then nothing happens, no more LEDs, no power on, no fan noise, nothing.

Has anybody got any clue as to why that would be? I have just installed an SSD into the machine and the problems start after that. i have tested the power supply according to several videos on youtube and it seems to be working so don’t think thats the problem.

I was getting 4 volts from one of the pins and 12 from another one so does that sound like the PSU is ok?

Update (08/07/2019)

Thanks for your answer.

We did not have a power surge or a power outage, but I was working on the machine installing a couple of SSD drives so I’m thinking that might have had something to do with it.

I made sure to ground myself to the machine every time I went into it and followed video tutorials on how to take the machine apart etc and put it back together but when I put it back together it just wouldn’t start.

So would you recommend getting a new PSU and seeing if that is the problem or is there something else I can do as a test to see if there problem is elsewhere because the PSU is getting 4 volts on one pin and 12 on another so maybe that’s not the problem? Or should there definitely be power coming from all the pins on the PSU?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Your power supply offers multiple lines of power so doing limited testing won’t prove or disprove the health of your power supply.

A good power surge or lightning strike cannot only kill your power supply it can also kill your logic board as well.

Even still I would replace the power supply first as you need to start some where. Buying from a store that allows you to return the part if you discover you’ll also need a logic board is what I would do. True, you may face a re-stocking fee but that’s the cost of their manpower to test it before they put it back on the shelf.

OK, you dropped a hint here! So you added two SSD's? Who's did you install and how? Did you follow the iFixit guides? The more details may change things here!

thanks again for the comment. ok i followed two youtube tutorials. one for the system ssd and another for a spare one that I put under the ODD.

this is the spare SSD tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFHvIrdm...

and this is the one for the system drive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5NsZ0wt...

they were both Samsung Evo drives too.

So I suspect you mis-wired the logic board when you reconnected it after sliding it forward to put in the spare SATA per cable connections. Follow this guide Instalación de Kit Dual Drive de iMac Intel 27" EMC 2429 (HDD or SSD) as I personally find having a static page is better when you are doing the job and use the videos to get an idea on what's involved before I do the job.

thanks mate i'll try that and get back to you with my results.
