LG Plasma 50PJ350-UB won't turn on, but have standby power

I hear clicking sounds, then clicking sounds noting it is turning off. There is a flicker of light that I see on the screen. I have the red LED glowing solid red. TV simply does not turn on. Looking for some help as to where to start my trouble shooting process with my multimeter and circuit boards exposed from the back. Thank you

Have exactly same issue repair guy want $100 just to look at it I sent a video of issue still want $100 to inspect

John, I fixed my TV with this symptom by replacing the Main Logic Control board. I got mine on ebay for a reasonable price.

Hi @bartles30 ,

Here’s a link to the Power-Up Boot Fail Trouble Shooting flowchart from the service manual for the TV, which may be of some help.

Thank you for your response. Is there a way you can walk me through the flow chart. I know how to use a multimeter, but unsure where I place the probes to check voltages.

Hi @bartles30 ,

Do the leakage current hot check before working on the TV

You'll have to connect your DC voltmeter between the chassis earth and the components as shown on p.24 for the P500 chip (top left corner)

It is easier to check the voltages on individual components first before deciding if you need to check if it is OK at the P500 chip, as the chances of accidentally bridging your test lead across two chip connectors are high and you could damage the chip. It should be OK at the chip as most are direct connection through the board tracks except for the +3.5V., unless it is a dry joint connection at the chip of course

Example of where to test:

the 17V on C524 +side

the 5V_ST on C502

the +3.5V on R502

If any of the voltages are no good then as the flowchart states check the power connector. If that's OK replace the power board.

If the voltages are OK go down the flowchart etc.

How much does the capacitor cost pls

- de

@ronw9397 ,

It depends.

What are the specifications of the capacitor that you require?

They can vary from $0.20 to $10.

There is no mention in this answer about a faulty capacitor. The capacitors mentioned are only being used as a test point to test for voltages as the pins on the IC to which the capacitors connect are too close together and damage could occur if the voltmeter test lead "bridges" two adjacent IC pins when trying to read the voltage at that point. It is safer to read it on the capacitor connection.

It is the same in the Troubleshooting flowchart which is linked in the Chosen Solution above, no capacitors are mentioned.

If you have found a faulty capacitor, (is it blown or short circuit - open circuit could mean a capacitor is OK when using an Ohmmeter) then just search online using the specifications written on the capacitor to find suppliers and the cost.
