Replacement of aluminum display housing?

I have bent the top left corner of my macbook pro. Everything works just fine, the display itself is in a great shape. I just would like to replace the aluminum housing part. Is it possible to replace the aluminum display housing only?

I have not seen or come accross the housing seperatly anywhere. you might need an entire clamshell (LCD with bezel and glass). you can get one here

I know that it's possible to open and replace the glass and LCD panel itself, so if you feel adventurous you can try to open it and straighten the aluminium bezel youself. Here is a guide for an 2010 macbook pro. it should be fairly similar

I have successfully transferred my dented 2011 MacBook Pro housing lid to a new one without any major issues. You will definitely need a heat gun for the job and a heavy duty suction cup. The suction cup will slide when the glass is heated up due to the plastic on the suction cup being warmed by the glass.

The alternative is to buy an entire display assembly however note that there have been slight design changes in the 2011 Macbook.

One thing that I missed are two plastic cap covers at the end of the hinges (near the slide clutch cover) when transferring to the new housing. That meant I had to disconnect everything and put these back.

how did you come across the aluminum only? I have one with lots of scratches and want to replace the outer aluminum part without messing the display up or anything, once you heat it up and get it off whats next? and to put it the glass part back on do you need any glue? My display and camera are fine. Just scratches and dents on aluminum.

you lose suction because as the air inside the suction cup heats up it expands and increases the pressure. When there is not enough pressure difference between the inside and outside the cup the cup will no longer hold the glass. Not really relevant but just saying...

Take it to the apple store. In GBP, it was 320 (including labour) for the entire unibody replacement. Apple told me that the keyboard and lower unibody are attached, and so is the LCD and the back. So for 499 dollars, approx 350 Gbp I think, you could get the whole lot done by a apple genius.

If more expensive then send it to a family in the UK :)

Frankly, I wouldn't do this! Basically in this vid the cover glass has pulled away. Using epoxy would prevent you from fixing the display or even gaining access to the other parts within the lid assembly - Penny wise, pound foolish!
