How can I adapt this PCIe NVMe 256GB SSD?

This Macbook Pro 13” 2017 had a particularly strange drive I need to get data off. For the life of me I cannot find an enclosure or adapter for it.

Anyone seen anything like that? Or am I going to have to buy another machine to get at the data?

Can you tell us what happened, give us details we might have other alternatives.

Poor customer with no backup went to apple and they said of course we can fix the failed logic board but we won't back up your data. Such a crazy thing to tell your customer, this poor girl; We have to help her. So I will buy another machine from apple refurb and use it to recover the data. Then return it to them and tell them its crap.

@heavylabs - Did you check if the system is covered? 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) Solid-State Drive Service Program I forgot about that program.

As it turns out the drive has also failed and yes this machine is a part of the "Apple's Homemade SSD That Sucked" replacement program. This girl will lose her data now or face a very very expensive recovery.

You are absolutely justified in your pain. Apple giving us no recourse to recover data is total disregard for the needs of their customers.

@kyle Is there any other recourse that you are aware of?

Done! With 25 years in the tech support and sales business, 10 years ago I was sick of the wasteful attitude promoted by corporations. Each day I do my best to convince people to repair repair repair.

Sadly, its a custom Apple SSD! So far I don’t know of any case or adapter to support it so you can access the data on it.

But with that said! You do have one other option renting or buying another 13” MacBook Pro Fn system and carefully sliding out the SSD so you can plug yours in then using an external drive coming the data off.

Do make sure you’ve fully powered down the system before removing the SSD so you don’t damage it.

Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro 2017 (Function keys) and I had an accident (water dropping) and the screen and connections are damaged. I couldn’t find affordable fixing, so right now is broken but the SSD works.

I bought a Lenovo A340-24IWL and I’d like to know if is possible to put the SSD from my broken MacBook Pro on this Lenovo A340? Do you have some enclosure or adapter to use this SSD on a PC?

Thank you very much for your response!!!
