Black dot moves to different spot after screen repair?

Hi,

My girlfriend’s S7 had a pinkish dot that appeared to be dead pixels on the right side of the screen, she then dropped it again and the screen went completely dead.

After bringing it to a third party repairer, who said that even with a new screen there would still be the dot there, the dot is now black, larger and moved to the opposite side of the phone (but not exactly opposite, ie. not perfectly mirrored to the other side.)

The repairer claims that this would be some issue with the motherboard, is he trying to scam us? Is there any way that a dot like this could move around/change side?

It’s a scam. Black splotches are indications of impact damage on the OLED display panel that is under the glass, these generally tend to be around the edges of the screen.

Splotches don’t just move to another spot on the screen, chances are the screen was swapped with another one.

The right result would be a new screen with no black spots on the screen.

Thanks for the help! I don't believe a word of what they're saying and went back in today.

They continued to claim that it's a MB issue and the screen was brand new. My girlfriend had been warned that there still might be a black dot but didn't realise it'd be so big and in a different place.

After a heated phone discussion with the boss he stated he'd come in tomorrow and fix the black dot otherwise we'd get our refund.

Is there any possibility that it could be graphics/MB related, or are they just going to pull a fast one and put a new screen in? (we're going to watch the repair ourselves of course either way.)

With the black splotches no, they are probably going to pull a fast one and put a new screen in. Otherwise if they give you the run around I would push for a refund and get the phone fixed at another store preferably more reputable.
