Problem after replacing battery

I have replaced the battery in my MacBook Pro model A1398 following your guide.

Now when the MacBook restarts, the fan is running very quickly and the MacBook is running VERY SLOWLY as if the CPU is being throttled to a point where the system is unusable.

I have tried following steps to reset the SMC but this makes no difference.

Please help!

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the quick reply.

At the moment, the MacBook is running SO SLOWLY it is almost impossible to install any new software. When I click on something it takes about 5 - 10 mins to respond.

Could the problem be with a fault temperature sensor?

You might have got a faulty battery there. Try disconnecting it and see if your Mac gets back to normal just running off the magsafe. That would give some kind of answer to start with.

Unfortunately, have the same problem with battery disconnected (running off external power).

The trackpad ribbon cable was replaced during fitting the battery.

I have carriedout some more research and it appears that the riboon cable needs to be "matched" to the trackpad assembly. There is a thermal sensor in the track pad that does not report acurate temperature information if the ribbon cable is not "matched" to the trackpad.

I have now ordered a complete trackpad assembly and will see if this resolves the problem.

Can we see the CoconutBattery screenshot so we can see it. If you have a second Mac you could create s bootable USB thumb drive and use it to boot your system and as you can setup CoconutBattery on it to get what we need.

Until we see it you maybe replacing things you don't need to. Getting the wrong cable can indeed mess things up but its not matched to the trackpad per-say.

Try starting up in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift Key on start up, let’s see if this slow down is related to software. I have seen this several times, especially if you are running an older version of MicroSoft Office.
