Broke the home button, now won't charge or read SIM cards?

Hi everyone. Yesterday, I was replacing a screen on an iPhone 7. I have been repairing iPhones for 8 years now so I was being careful as usual. However, right as I was slowly lifting the home button, I sneezed.

Yes, my sneezed ripped the home button’s cable. Now, on top of taking 5-7 minutes to boot (which is normal when there is no home button), the phone now refuses to charge and the “Modem Firmware” is empty, meaning it won’t read SIM cards.

How the !&&* could ripping a home button cause all of these issues that did NOT exist beforehand ? I only removed the screen, then put the phone in a bubble envelope while replacing the screen, nothing happened to it in the meantime.

Here’s the thing though, I know the charging port works because when it is shut off, if I connect a cable then it will start the phone.

I am baffled and honestly really frustrated, since it was such a dumb mistake, but it is now way more than just a broken home button, with the SIM card problem and the no charging, it’s now a paperweight !

Do these problems ring give you guys any clues at to what could have happened ? Does a broken home button cause all of these things as well ??

By seeing the history the phone might be forcely dropped that the phone is well on packed stage working well but after open the board bends might be cause like.

But charging issues with no modem firmware issues is that might be problwm with BBPMU and Baseband chip .

iPhone 7 and 7 plus series have so many problem on Baseband related problem .Thousand of the phones are turns in garbage i see.

Hello!

Replacing a home button will not solve anything and will not work at all. The button with touch ID is paired with the motherboard, only Apple can replace it and make it work again, otherwise it has lost the functions of the button completely.

This should not cause another problem than the home button, something else will be damaged during the repair. Disassemble the device and look carefully that everything is correct. If it continues to fail, try putting the previous screen (the broken one) and test if the same thing happens to rule out a bad bad screen. If it continues to fail, try a restoration.

My advice is to take it to Apple disguising everything possible that was manipulated and ask for a screen change. If there is any other problem, they will replace it with another one (not new as they say).
