I cannot press the power button. Wondering why?

Hey guys.

Just wondering if anyone here has ever experience trouble with their JBL speaker.

I have this JBL Charge 4 that I recently purchased 2 months ago.

Just now the speaker's power button seem to 'disappear' in a sense that when I press it, I cannot 'feel' the button and there is no clicked sound. As a result, I cannot turn my speaker on.

Other buttons are still normal, you can press it and there's that clicked sound. However that is not the case with the power button.

My speaker is still new, never drops to the floor nor being exposed to water.

I’ve browsed the internet and haven’t seen forum discussing this problem.

Wondering if anyone can advise any solution?

Thanks heaps!

Oh my gosh! Ours just started doing the same thing last night! It’s like the bottom has fallen out under the power button, just softness and no clicking like the Bluetooth button beside it, i can turn it on by using the blunt end of a writing pen, but need to figure out whats the problem to begin with. And yes nothing on the internet anywhere on it. I’m going to tinker with it and will post if i find a resolution for it.

Have you had any luck with yours since your last posting?

I've had my speaker maybe 3-4 month and only used a few times. (bought it for summer boating trips) Went to go turn it on and the same thing! The button is gone and have to use a pen to turn it on. And advice would be great since I no longer have the receipt to return.

Thanks

I emailed JBL customer service and they replied super quick, with sine troubleshooting things which I replied thats its a physical problem not electronic glitch. I bought mine off Mercari in February 2019 new in the box, with a screenshot of the transaction summary, and they accepted that with no problem or questions. I thought they wouldn’t but what did i have to lose, i was going to open it myself and tinker with it, but they sent a replacement! All this was in a week and a halfs time and free return shipping. I was thinking something came detached and could probably be glued back. It wouldn’t hurt to email them with whatever info you have like the box serial number etc or online transaction, if you don’t have anything its still worth a shot especially if its within the warranty i think is a year :)

Hi all, also here in Italy, in Milan I bought my charge 4 and after 2 weeks I had the same problem. The store replaced the speaker with a new charge 4 but after 2 weeks I still have the same issue. That’s incredible. I was looking for someone else with this problem. Now thanks to you guys I understand I will buy another speaker BT. No more charge 4. Bye Max

Did it fall or get hit? Your probably going to have to replace it but if your lucky you’ll be able not to. Try taking it apart and putting it back together. If that doesn’t work the you’ll need to replace it.

I have the same issue with my Charge 4 and to me it seems like the button detached from the frame and collapsed deep into the housing. I can still use it, but have to press really hard with my thumb. I wonder if the button can collapse even further or if it is the end? The speaker is just a couple of weeks old and I don't want to disassemble for investigating/fixing it - I will just replace it at where I got it from showing them this thread, if needed…

Otherwise super happy with performance and SQ.

SOLUTION:

I have decided to fix it myself, rather than return my Charge 4 to the store.

1. remove the mesh cover (plenty of tutorials on how to do it - basically you need one of those plastic prying tools for fixing phones).

DO NOT remove the passive radiators, or 'unglue' the silicone button cover - there is no need for that!

2. Using your thumb and index finger squeeze/pinch the silicone around the power button trying to lift the "power" sign up.

3. Check if the power button works correctly - if yes - the problem has been fixed, if not - try squeezing/pinching again, this time applying more force.

4. Only if step 3 hasn't helped, remove the silicone button cover to investigate further.

For those, who want to know more: the reason for the problem is that if you (or some one else) press the power button too hard, a plastic rod on the other side of the silicone cover slips off the actual button that is soldered on a small printed board and stays there. By pinching the silicone u put it back in place.
