I have a troybilt pony that starts for a few seconds then stops. I have cleaned the carburetor, changed the air filter, spark plug and fuel. What else can I try?

@esetch3

going by your short description, it sounds like it runs out of fuel. Check the float and needle valve on your carburetor. It will help if you can give us a model for your Pony and possibly an engine make/model. That way we can most likely help you a bit more. If in doubt you can always post some pictures of the carb etc. with your question Agregar imágenes a una pregunta existente

I have Troybilt TB240 with an easy start Honda GVC 160. That shuts off after a few feet of mowing. Check gas lines and cleaned carburetor and new ethanol free gasoline.. Don’t what else to do.

I had same problem with 1 yr old Troy Bilt and after following all online advice (cleaned carb, air filter, gas line, PURCHASED new carb, new gas) without success, sought out help from small engine expert at work - he fixed it and runs like a top. Turns out gas leaked into crankcase through carb into cylinder, as left in gas from last year so gas mixed with engine oil. After draining gas/oil from crankcase and refill oil it started right up and keeps on running. At the end of the season will either put in a valve in gas line and/or drain all gas from the tank after running with Stabil. My guy figures the float and valve get gummed up allowing the gas to drain through the carb to piston to crankcase. Good luck and if it works please reply.

If you have tried all of those then maybe the spark plug wires or electrical systems are not making good contact. I would clean the contacts of the wires and if you have a multimeter use it to make sure the wires are working properly.

What mine ended up being was where the gas comes out of the tank was plugged up with small pieces of grass. It was not allowing very much gas through. Glad I figured it out. I really need my mower.
